3/10/08 Message from Kelly McCann
Mitey Mites,
I heard all went well this past Sunday. As you know it was the last day. It has been a great year! I hope everyone enjoyed their time. If anyone would like to provide me with any feedback for changes or thoughts on our program please feel free to send me an email. I look forward to a better program next year. Many of you will be racing throughout the month of March and into April. Knowing this we are offering training at Crystal the next two Sunday's. This week we will do SL on Chair 7. There is a limited staff on hand but you can at least get a few runs into to maintain your skills and stay sharp. There is plenty of skiing left this spring so get out and enjoy. Remember to attend the CMAC banquet . It is always an enjoyable afternoon and a nice way to end our season. I will look forward to seeing many of you within the next few weeks around the mountain.
Have a great week!
Kelly McCann
MM Director

MM Program Information
CMAC offers multiple Mitey-Mite Programs for the racers 7-12 years old (J6 through J4). These programs emphasize technical skiing and race tactics. All Mitey-Mite program participants must wear helmets when they are skiing with CMAC; however, slalom headgear is acceptable for slalom racing and training. If you are interested in participating in one of our Mitey-Mite Programs, download the application.
MM Groupings
We will organize groups by age and ability. We will start with past Buddy Werner Team members from last season and our J4 Training Group racers that train on Saturdays. Then we will organize by age and ability the best we can. We may shift your child to a faster or slower group during the first few sessions.
MM Daily Schedule
Most of the time we will begin with directed free skiing. This is the most important time of the day for learning. The coaches will instruct the kids on stance, carving, balance, etc., by doing different drills, or by taking them to challenging terrain.
If the kids are executing the new skills well, then it is time to bring them into drill courses and gate training. The afternoon sessions will be more dedicated to this type of training. A typical daily schedule follows:
8:15AM Coaches meet at shack for morning meeting
8:30AM Gather racers outside the shack
8:45AM Head for chairlift
11:30AM Drop racers at base area for LUNCH
12:40PM Gather racers at base area
12:45PM Leave base area for training
3:15PM Drop racers at base area - End of day
This is only an example, but all elements of learning are included in this example. Skiing on challenging terrain all day is sometimes much better for a young skier. Gate training is only part of becoming a great skier and racer.
Buddy Werner Team
The Buddy Werner Championships brings together the top 12 and under kids from around the Northwest for a Slalom and Giant Slalom race. Each club is allowed 7 boys and 7 girls. CMAC will qualify team members based on race results from the Warm Up Slalom and the Cherry Tree Charge. Please see the Race Information link on the CMAC website for more qualification information.
Midweek Training
Midweek training is a great way to get in lots of gate time. We train at Summit Central on Wednesday nights. Thursday nights are also available to J4s. We start to set gates at 4:30PM and train until 8-8:15PM.
