HERB GARDENER'S PROBLEM

My name is Herb Gardener, and I love to garden. I also love to cook. I use a lot of herbs in my recipes. Mostly, I use parsley, sage, and thyme.

Here are the amounts of each herb that I need for a year:

Parsley 9 pounds
Sage 6 pounds
Thyme 8 pounds

I figured out that I can grow my own herbs and save money while I am having fun. I have a little plot of land in my back yard where I can grow herbs. It is rectangular and measures 8 by 10 feet. Here is how much of each herb I can grow:

HERB PER SQUARE FOOT
Parsley .25 pound
Sage .50 pound
Thyme .25 pound

I need your help to figure out how I should lay out my herb garden so that I can grow what I need each year.

Your response should be on the "GARDEN PROBLEM RESPONSE" page:

  • Part 1: Restate the problem in your own words.
  • Part 2: Investigate the problem, drawing as many gardens as you can on the back of the response page that fit the rules. Label the thyme, sage and parsley in each.
  • Part 3: Conclusion, describing your favorite design. Explain why you like it the best.
