Year 1 Lesson 23 In-class Exercise - Page 2

You are given 3 points (A, B and C) for each shape.
The points given go clockwise () around the figure with D being the next point after point C.
  1. Plot these points.
  2. Find the offset of point A from point B in X and Y.
    (Subtract the X and Y coordinates of B from A. This is A minus B)
  3. Apply these offsets to point C to determine point D
  4. Plot your new point D and draw the shape.
    Does it look like the shape you want?
(These are problems from the indicated WSMC Math Olympiads ... slightly modified)

Problem 9:Problem 10:
2017: Make a square
A: (2,-1)    B: (-3,-3)     C: (-5,2)
Offset of point A from point B:
dX = _____   dY = _____

Point D = (____,____)
Reasonableness check:
    Does it look like a square? _____
2014: Make a parallelogram
A: (5,2)    B: (0,0)    C: (1,3)
Offset of point A from point B:
dX = _____   dY = _____

Point D = (____,____)
Reasonableness check:
    Does it look like a parallelogram? ____
