1.   Carpet
comes in rolls (like rolls of fabric) that are 2'3" wide.   How many yards of carpet will it require to
cover a floor that measures 21' by 18' ?
2.   A
rabbit (hare) is 80 of its own (hare) leaps ahead of a hound.   For every 4 hare-leaps the hare makes, the
hound is able to travel the equivalent of 5 hare-leaps.   How many hare-leaps will the hound have to
travel before he catches up with the hare?
3.   What
day of the week will May 5th, 2010, fall
on?   Remember the year 2000 is a leap
year.
4.   Determine
the amount of flour needed for 100 cookies, if a certain recipe calls for 2
cups of flour for 2-dozen cookies.
5.   As
Ginger and her friends were leaving Yulip at 10 a.m. this morning, they spotted
some river rafters who were just arriving at Yulip.   The rafters said they had started out from Rogue Rapids 6 hours
before.   Ginger and her friends were
just beginning a 7-hour hike along the South Fork of the Tubonia River to Rogue
Rapids.   They saw many rafters along the
way, because a new group of rafters left Rogue Rapids every hour on the hours,
from 4 o'clock that morning to 8 o'clock that evening.   Including the group they first encountered,
how many groups of rafters did Ginger and her friends see on their hike?
