Name:Jurjen
Age:33
Location:Olympia, WA, United States
Originally from:The Hague (Den Haag), The Netherlands
Marital status:Married (to this lady), with four ferrets
Politics:According to the World's smallest Political Quiz, I'm a centrist, bordering on left-wing (70% personal self-government, 40% economic self-government).
Centrists favor selective government intervention and emphasize practical solutions to current problems. They tend to keep an open mind on new issues.
That sums it up fairly well.

On the Political Compass I tend to get between -2 and -3 on the economic left/right scale, and between -5 and -6 on the authoritarian/libertarian scale (the variance is caused mostly by whether I simply agree/disagree with a statement, or agree/disagree "strongly"; this is subject to my mood on any given day).

Religion:Secular humanist (in other words, none)
Influential periods:Military service (1993-1994), working at the UN ICTY (1997-2001)
Beverages:Olympic Crest coffee (home of "white coffee"), Fish Tale ales, and I do miss Hertog Jan
Periodicals:The Olympian, The Economist
Amusements:Amateur dramatics (semi-pro), role-playing games (P&P and PC), computer strategy games, pétanque
So what's with the title? Here's the story.

Collected reviews of "No Cameras" (because I'm vain):

Read No Cameras, a good blog written by a Dutchman living in Olympia, Washington. [...] Anybody who writes: "If history—especially that of the Cold War—teaches us anything, it's that peace (if we take peace to simply mean "the absence of armed conflict") and justice have an annoying tendency of being mutually exclusive" deserves to be read on a regular basis. That's audacious thinking. It's also right. I like it. It's always such a pleasure to stumble across an observant, analytical mind!
— Diane, Letter From Gotham (now, alas, defunct)

The blog No Cameras offers an excellent, concise analysis of the Current State of Things in Iraq, from a military viewpoint.
The rest of the blog is excellent as well. Check it out.

— William Quick, Daily Pundit

If anyone's keeping track, the first blog I checked out when I got home yesterday was No Cameras. If you want solid content, Jurjen's your man [...]
