Temple of Vesta, RomeTemple of Vesta, Rome (circa 1884):

The charm of Piazza della Bocca della Verità may have dimmed somewhat after 100 years, but Rome never fails to stimulate the imagination.

In this important piazza can be found, besides the circular Temple of Vesta (end of 2C BC; probably more accurately dedicated to Hercules Victor the temple was the first marble edifice in Rome.), the Temple of Fortuna Virilis (seen behind the Temple of Vesta and from the same period), and one of Rome's most beautiful and interesting paleochristian churches, that of Santa Maria in Cosmedin (6C).

The piazza occupies the original Forum Boarium, old Rome's cattle-market (you may be able to discern the famous white chianina cattle next to the fountain by Bizzaccheri from 1717).
