Brigada Halcon

Brigada Especial Operativa Halcon (Falcon Special Operations Brigade was formed in 1986 to combat criminal terrorism. Halcon is a police unit directly under the command of the Buenos Aires police department. It consists of seventy five operators, organized into five fifteen-man teams. Each team consists of eight assaulters, two snipers, an EOD (Explosive Ordinance Demolition) expert, one negotiator, a communications specialist, an intelligence specialist, and one medic.

Initial training is divided into three two-month stages. Topics such as combat shooting, heliborne insertion, parachuting, explosives, sniping, intelligence gathering, and offensive driving are covered in this period. Besides CT work, the unit also works as VIP protectors.

Brigada Halcon member use both foreign weapons and gear as well as locally manufactured protective gear and uniforms. Weapons include the Glock 17 and the Franchi SPAS 12 shotgun. For sniping purposes the HK G3 GS/1 is used.
